Safety Milestone
Heinz Wagga Wagga employs more than 100 people and produces around 9000 tonnes of canned goods every year and has acheived an enviable safety milestone after reaching one year without a single recordable injury.  WorkCover took part in official celebrations and presented a letter to the business congratulating them on their achievement. Mr Watson, WorkCover's General Manager of Occupational Health and Safety, said the Wagga Wagga plant's safety record put it in the top 5 per cent of all Heinz facilities across the world.

“It’s a major regional employer which exports internationally and the safety of workers, especially in manufacturing industries is the highest priority for WorkCover.  Heinz Wagga Wagga has implemented a number of safety improvement programs including training on first aid, chemical awareness, working at heights and conducts ongoing surveys to look at more ways to improve safety,” he said.
